AFFF-AR Foam Concentrate

Thanks to its alcohol-resistant formulation, it delivers effective results on polar solvent fires.

Description

AFFF-AR %1-3-6 (Alcohol Resistant Aqueous Film-Forming Foam) is a high-performance AR-AFFF concentrate formulated with hydrocarbon and fluorosurfactants, fluoropolymers and water-soluble polysaccharide polymers. When applied to a water-soluble fuel, a polymeric membrane forms between the foam and the fuel. When applied to a hydrocarbon fuel, a film is created at the fuel/air interface, similar to AFFF. Like AFFF, AR-AFFF also inhibits vapor release and provides a foam blanket cooling effect in the suppression of both types of Class B fires.

Application

AFFF-AR %1-3-6 concentrates produce foams effective in suppressing both types of Class B fuel fires — polar solvent (water-soluble) fuels such as methanol, ethanol and acetone, as well as hydrocarbon fuels such as gasoline, diesel and petroleum. AFFF-AR %1-3-6 is principally recommended for fire protection in:

  • Fuel or chemical storage tanks
  • Industrial chemical and petroleum processing facilities
  • Truck/rail loading and unloading facilities
  • Flammable liquid containment areas
  • Docks and on-board marine systems
  • Mobile equipment

Approvals, Listings and Standards

AFFF-AR %1-3-6 is in conformity with all national and international standards, including EN 1568:2018 Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 directives. AFMER Chemical operates a quality management system that complies with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015.

Foaming Properties

AFFF-AR %1-3-6 Concentrate can be effectively applied using most conventional foam discharge equipment at 1-3-6% dilution with fresh, salt, or hard water. For optimum performance, water hardness should not exceed 500 ppm expressed as calcium and magnesium. Aspirating discharge devices typically produce expansion ratios of 3.5:1 to 10:1 depending on device type and flow rate. Non-aspirating devices, such as handline water fog/stream nozzles or standard sprinkler heads, typically produce ratios of 2:1 to 4:1, while medium-expansion discharge devices typically produce ratios of 20:1 to 60:1.

Performance

AFFF-AR %1-3-6 is manufactured to rigorous quality control standards. After each production run, performance tests are carried out at AFMER Chemical's Performance Laboratories.

Compatibility

AFFF-AR %1-3-6 is suitable for use in combination with:

  • Soft or hard, fresh or seawater.
  • Dry powder extinguishing agents, either separately or as twin-agent systems.
  • Expanded AFFF-AR foams applied to a fire in sequence or simultaneously.

Its properties do not change in the event of freezing; it recovers its original properties as soon as it thaws.

Storage

AFFF-AR %1-3-6 is exceptionally stable in long-term storage. A shelf life of up to 10 years can be expected when stored properly in its original container. It is suitable for storage in steel tank bodies.
