A FOAM %1-3-6 AFFF (Aqueous Film-Forming Foam) Concentrate combines fluoro- and hydrocarbon-surfactant technologies to provide superior fire and vapor suppression for Class B hydrocarbon fuel fires. This AFFF foam concentrate is intended for fire-fighting applications at 1%, 3% or 6% solution in fresh, salt, or hard water.

The AFFF %1-3-6 foam solution uses three suppression mechanisms for rapid fire knockdown and superior burnback resistance:

• The foam blanket blocks the oxygen supply to the fuel.
• Liquid draining from the foam blanket forms an aqueous film that suppresses fuel vapor and seals the fuel surface.
• The water content of the foam solution produces a cooling effect for additional fire suppression.

A FOAM %1-3-6 AFFF is used in high-risk situations where hydrocarbons such as diesel fuel, gasoline or crude oil are stored, processed or transported. It is designed and recommended for fast fire knockdown to save human lives, in addition to preventing catastrophic fire development — particularly when used in fire-fighting vehicles at airports and fixed fire systems at heliports.

A FOAM %1-3-6 AFFF can also be used as a wetting agent against Class A materials such as paper, wood and tires, and is best suited for simultaneous use with compatible powders in twin-agent systems.

A FOAM %1-3-6 AFFF is principally recommended for fire protection in:

A FOAM %1-3-6 AFFF Concentrate can be effectively applied using most conventional foam discharge equipment at 1-3-6% dilution with fresh, salt, or hard water. It requires low energy to foam and the solution may be applied with both aspirating and non-aspirating discharge devices. Non-aspirating devices, such as handline water fog/stream nozzles or standard sprinkler heads, typically produce expansion ratios of 2:1 to 4:1. Aspirating low-expansion discharge devices typically produce ratios of 3.5:1 to 10:1 depending on device type and flow rate, while medium-expansion discharge devices typically produce ratios of 20:1 to 60:1.

A FOAM %1-3-6 AFFF is manufactured to rigorous quality control standards. After each production run, performance tests are carried out at AFMER Chemical's Performance Laboratories.

A FOAM %1-3-6 AFFF is suitable for use in combination with:

• Soft or hard, fresh or seawater.
• Dry chemical powder extinguishing agents, either separately or as twin-agent systems.
• Expanded AFFF foams applied to a fire in sequence or simultaneously.

A FOAM %1-3-6 AFFF properties do not change in the event of freezing; it recovers its original properties as soon as it thaws.

A FOAM %1-3-6 AFFF is exceptionally stable in long-term storage. A shelf life of up to 10 years can be expected when stored properly in its original container. It is suitable for storage in steel tank bodies.
